Why Teflon PTFE material is called the “king of plastics”?

  Poly tetra fluoroethylene (abbreviated as PTFE, alias: Teflon, Teflon, Teflon, Teflon, Tauflon, DEFLON) is generally known as “non-stick coating” or “easy-to-clean material”. This material is resistant to acids, alkalis, and various organic solvents, and is virtually insoluble in all solvents. At the same time, PTFE is resistant to high temperatures and has an extremely low coefficient of friction, making it ideal for lubrication and as a coating for the inner layer of easy-to-clean water pipes.

  PTFE has a series of excellent performance:

  High temperature resistance, low temperature resistance: long-term use temperature of 200 ~ 260 degrees, at -100 degrees is still soft; PTFE in -196 ~ 260 ℃ a wide range of temperatures are to maintain excellent mechanical properties;

  Corrosion resistance: resistant to aqua regia and all organic solvents, one of the best materials in the world today for corrosion resistance;

  Climate resistance: the best aging life among plastics;

  High lubrication: with the smallest coefficient of friction (0.04) among plastics;

  Non-adhesive: has the smallest surface tension of any solid material without adhering to anything;

  Non-toxic: physiologically inert; excellent electrical properties, ideal Class C insulating material, a thick layer of newspaper can block high voltage of 1500V; smoother than ice.

  Teflon Application Areas

  Polytetrafluoroethylene can be molded by compression or extrusion processes; it can also be made into aqueous dispersions for coating, impregnation or made into fibers. Polytetrafluoroethylene is widely used in atomic energy, national defense, aerospace, electronics, electrical, chemical, machinery, instruments, meters, construction, textile, metal surface treatment, pharmaceutical, medical, textile, food, metallurgy and smelting industries as high and low temperature, corrosion-resistant materials, insulating materials, anti-adhesive coatings and so on, which makes it irreplaceable.

  1.Chemical field

  Teflon is known in any kind of liquid neither dissolved, nor dissolved up, so PTFE parts in any corrosive medium, no matter how long it is affected by its role, the size is unchanged. Teflon manufactured large thin-walled containers, experimental vessels are widely used in the use of corrosive liquids in laboratories and factories in the actual operation, in addition it is widely used for seals, pipes, pumps, valves and so on.

  2.Mechanical field

  No matter what kind of mechanical equipment, the mutual sliding surfaces need lubrication to reduce the friction factor, reduce the wear and heat of the machine parts, in order to ensure the normal operation of mechanical equipment, precision and power consumption. Teflon’s low coefficient of friction and self-lubricating properties make it widely used in the manufacture of bearings, piston rings, machine tool guides and sealing materials.

  3.Construction field

  Teflon has a low coefficient of friction and high load bearing capacity, the allowable long-term load of 30MPa, short-term load of 45MPa, displacement rate of 1mm/s. Therefore, it can be used in the manufacture of bridges and buildings on the load-bearing support seat.

  4. Electrical field

  Teflon has practically neither depends on the temperature and frequency effects of the excellent dielectric properties, but also has a very high thermal stability, so it becomes an irreplaceable electrical insulation materials, especially in the high frequency and ultra-frequency technology. Teflon wires and cables are widely used in micro-motors, thermocouples, program control devices, aviation, radar, television, rockets and other industries. Among them, Teflon insulated coaxial radio frequency cable, low noise cable, ribbon wire has been used in large quantities.

  5.Medical field

  Teflon because of its water resistance, physiological inertia and non-stick can be used to package particularly valuable medicines. It does not have any effect on physiological processes, so it is used in many tissue repair materials and artificial organ materials. Moreover, the biggest advantage of Teflon is that it can be sterilized in any way, either by heating under high pressure or by treating with various disinfectants, and it is widely used in medical devices, such as suture needles, sterilized pads, injection needles, etc.

  6. For household utensils

  Since Teflon is non-stick, it is used in kitchenware in order to reduce the accumulation of food, grease and dirt to achieve the purpose of easy cleaning and improve the quality of life. Teflon is sprayed on various kinds of household utensils. For example, coffee pots, hamburger steak grill pan, baking pan, various kinds of pastry molds, ice maker, cake pan, oven pan, pie pan, juice filter, frying pan and so on.

  7.Other fields

  Teflon film after bi-directional stretching, and then composite with other fabrics, can be made of corrosion-resistant filter bags, waterproof, breathable, windproof and warmth of good senior clothing.

  In the military industry, Teflon can be used to manufacture the internal parts of military engines, bushings, electrical connectors and so on.
