UL high temperature wire & cable (UL 758 standard wires)
UL was founded in 1894. The UL mark is a globally recognized product safety mark and one of the basic bases for measuring whether a product meets the North American market access requirements.
UL high temperature cable refers to a cable certified by Underwriters Laboratories (UL). UL is an independent third-party safety science company specializing in product safety testing and certification. UL cables must comply with the safety standards set by UL in terms of design, manufacturing and performance to ensure that the cables can work safely and reliably in various applications. UL’s conductor specification is AWG, which means American Wire Gauge, which means “American wire specification” in Chinese. In the UL standard, common temperature resistance levels are 60°℃, 70°℃, 80°℃, 90℃, 105℃, 125℃, 150°℃, 200℃, and 250℃. UL certified cables are widely used in: locomotives, subways, light rail, construction, oil and gas, ships, medical, robots, machine tools, transmission systems, motors and servo systems, high temperature and low temperature environments, and have a good reputation among customers around the world.
Industry status
The current high temperature cable market is mixed, and the quality of high temperature cables varies. If uncertified, counterfeit or inferior electrical wiring materials (AWM) are accidentally used in end products, it may cause major safety hazards and increase the risk of recalls with high costs and brand damage. TST cables UL (1-4) series cables, tested, certified and continuously monitored by UL Solutions AWM, can help you mitigate such risks, enhance product safety performance and stability, and reduce the time and cost of bringing products to market.
UL High Temperature Cable Materials

- Softness: It has good softness and elasticity, and is easy to bend and install.
- Chemical resistance: It has a certain tolerance to a variety of chemicals.
- Aging resistance: It is not easy to age after long-term exposure to the natural environment.
- Biocompatibility: It is friendly to human skin and suitable for medical applications.
UL 758 High Temperature Electronic Wire
UL 758 is an important standard that covers the standards for flexible wires for household and commercial appliances. The minimum rated voltage of UL758 cables and wires is 30V to 1000kV AC and 3kV DC and above, covering low voltage, medium voltage and high voltage cables. The conductor sizes covered by the UL758 standard are measured using the US imperial system, ranging from 50AWG to 2000kcmill. The standard covers copper and aluminum conductor cables (as well as alternative fillers such as fiber and nickel) and fiber optic cables.
UL 758 High Temperature Cable Product Application
Compliant with ANSI/UL 758 & CEC Part II, it is only used for factory installation wiring and can be used as internal connections in appliances and other equipment, or external connection wires, or as components of multi-core cables after further processing.

UL cable flame retardant standard classification
1. Boosting grade-CMP grade (plenum flame test/Steiner tunnel test)
2. Trunk grade-CMR grade (Riser flame test)
3. Commercial grade-CM grade (vertical burning test Vertial Tray Flame Test)
4. General grade-CMG grade (vertical burning test Vertial Tray Flame Test)
5. Home grade-CMX grade (vertical burning test Vertial Wire Flame Test)
Comply with UL1581 test standard
In the US market, the flammability of UL1581 may be the most widely used wire and cable combustion performance evaluation standard. It is used to evaluate the extinguishing ability of the cable after being ignited, and is generally divided into vertical burning and horizontal burning. It determines the flame retardant level of the wire or cable by simulating the burning behavior of the wire or cable in the flame. The UL1581 test includes testing of single wires or cables, as well as testing of bundled wires or cables.
Wire and Cable UL1581 Burning Test – Burning Method
VW-1: Vertical Burning Test (UL Wire Burning Level);
FT1: Vertical Burning Test;
FT2: Horizontal Burning Test;
FT4: Vertical Burning Test;
FT6: Horizontal Burning and Smoke Test (FT Class Burning Level is CSA Standard Wire Burning Level);
Among the above levels: VW-1 is the same level as FT1, FT2 is the lowest, and the flame retardant levels are FT6, FT4, VW-1, FT1, and FT2.
Although VW-1 and FT1 are the same level, VW-1 is stricter than FT1.
Judgment criteria
1. The burning mark (kraft paper) cannot be carbonized more than 25%;
2. The burning time of 5 times of 15 seconds cannot exceed 60 seconds;
3. The burning drippings cannot ignite cotton;
VW-1 requires 1.2.3 to be met, and FT1 only requires 1.2 to be met.
