Polyethylene cable (PE cable) is commonly used in coaxial cables and low capacitance cables due to its electrical properties. It is affordable and can be foamed to reduce the dielectric constant to 1.50, making it an attractive choice for cables that require high speed transmission. Polyethylene cable can be used in temperatures ranging from -65°C to 80°C. Polyethylene is rigid and inflexible at all densities. The material is also flammable. Additives can be used to make it flame retardant, but this sacrifices the dielectric constant and increases power loss. PE cable can also be cross-linked (XLPE cable) to produce high resistance to cracking, cutting, welding, and solvents.
UL Compliant:
Underwriters Laboratories (UL) provides standards and certifications for a wide range of cables, including those used in North America. UL standards cover safety and performance aspects of cables, some of which may include PE as a material component.
For example:
UL1659
UL1914
UL1942
UL3482
UL10102
UL10298
UL10393
Shielded Ultra Low Capacity Microphone Cable PE CABLE– Braided Shield
Description: Constructed with white foam polyethylene insulation, braided tinned copper shield, chrome gray vinyl jacket. The low loss foam polyethylene construction has lower capacitance and attenuation than standard polyethylene mike cables – as much as 50%. This increases the effective length of cable as much as 50% without signal loss.
Operating Temperature: -20°C to +60°C.
