Advantages and disadvantages of rubber sheathed cable

  1. Advantages and disadvantages of general rubber sheathed soft cable

General rubber sheathed flexible cables are widely used in industry, agriculture and daily electrical appliances as mobile power cables for connecting electrical devices. They can be used in various outdoor and outdoor environments. According to the external forces, the products are divided into medium and heavy types:

Medium-duty cables: should be flexible enough to facilitate movement and bending. The cables are light in weight and small in outer diameter, very convenient to use, and generally do not bear external forces.
Heavy-duty cables: should be able to withstand large mechanical external forces (extrusion, impact). The sheath has high mechanical properties, good wear resistance and elasticity, and should also have a certain degree of softness to facilitate bending and movement.

General rubber sheathed flexible cables move frequently and are often subjected to mechanical external forces such as bending, torsion, and friction during use. All cables are required to be soft and wear-resistant. They are often exposed to oils, and cables used outdoors must withstand sunlight, so these cables are also required to be resistant to sunlight aging, oil resistance, and moisture resistance.

  1. Advantages and disadvantages of mining rubber sheathed cables

Mining rubber sheathed cables are widely used in coal mines and other mines. There are a lot of flammable and combustible substances such as gas and dust in the mine; the electrical safety requirements are extremely strict, and the mine is humid and may contain corrosive substances. The cable moves frequently and is often subjected to bending, twisting, dragging and crushing. Cables used in the open air must also be able to withstand the effects of sunlight, so the requirements for mining cables are particularly strict. The conductive core should be highly flexible, and thinner and soft copper wires are often used to twist with a small pitch. The insulation layer should have high electrical resistance and mechanical strength. The cable is required to be soft, wear-resistant, impact-resistant, and can be bent frequently, and it must also have good flame retardant properties. The cable sheath is much thicker than the sheath of the general rubber-sheathed soft cable to increase the impact resistance and crushing resistance of the cable.

  1. Advantages and disadvantages of welding machine cables

Electric welding machine cables are low voltage, high current, and move frequently. They are often subjected to twisting, bending, dragging, etc. during use. The use environment may be acid, alkali, oil, etc. Therefore, the welding machine cable requires that the conductive core must be very soft, the insulation must be flame retardant, and the sheath must have properties such as wear resistance, oil resistance, and atmospheric aging resistance.

  1. Advantages and disadvantages of waterproof rubber sheathed cable

Waterproof rubber sheathed cable is mainly suitable for connecting power supply to submersible motors or submersible pumps with AC voltage of 450/750V and below, and can also be used in oil-contaminated places. Rubber sheathed wire and cable is a soft and movable cable with multiple strands of fine copper wire as conductor, rubber insulation and rubber sheath. Generally speaking, multi-strand copper core rubber sheathed cable includes general rubber sheathed soft cable, welding machine cable, submersible motor cable, rubber sheathed cable for coal mines and other varieties. The rubber sheathed cable has reasonable structure, softness, wear resistance and mechanical strength. The W-derived cable has weather resistance and certain oil resistance, which is suitable for outdoor or oil-contacting places, and these places often have corrosive environmental conditions; in addition, the mining rubber sheathed cable is used for the power supply line of non-fixed mining machinery, and has three characteristics: one is flame retardancy, that is, non-flammability; the second is weather resistance; the third is good mechanical properties.

Difference between rubber-sheathed cable and plastic-sheathed cable

  1. The essential difference between plastic-sheathed cable and rubber-sheathed cable is that when plastic is deformed, it is plastic deformation, while rubber is elastic deformation; in other words, it is not easy for plastic to return to its original shape after deformation, while rubber is relatively much easier. Rubber cable is soft, elastic, can be stretched and elongated, and can withstand higher temperatures than plastic cables. It will not harden in cold weather. At room temperature, plastic is solid, very hard, and cannot be stretched.
  2. The insulating sheath of plastic-sheathed cable is cross-linked polyethylene, the insulating sheath of rubber-sheathed cable is ethylene-propylene rubber, and rubber cable is formed by the reprocessing of natural rubber and styrene-butadiene rubber. There are also chloroprene rubber, butadiene rubber, and silicone rubber. The requirements of the use environment are different. In addition to polyvinyl chloride, there are also polyethylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, and fluoroplastics.
  3. At room temperature, the plastic sheath is solid, very hard, and cannot be stretched and deformed, while the rubber hardness is not high, it is elastic, can be stretched and lengthened, and can return to its original shape when the stretching stops; rubber sheathed cables are widely used in various electrical equipment, such as daily electrical appliances, electric machinery, electrical devices and portable power cords of appliances, and can be used in indoor or outdoor environments. According to the mechanical external force on the cable, the product structure is divided into three categories: light, medium and heavy.

Differences between rubber sheathed cables YC and YZ

  1. Different characteristics: YC, as a heavy rubber sheathed soft cable, bears strong external force on mobile electrical equipment and has a thicker sheath; YZ, as a medium rubber sheathed soft cable, bears weak external force on mobile electrical equipment and has a thinner sheath.
  2. Different voltage levels: The voltage level of YC is 450/750V; the voltage level of YZ is 300/500V.
  3. Different models: YC models include 10mm, 15mm, 25mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm, 95mm, 120mm, 150mm, 185mm and 240mm, etc.; YZ models include 0.75mm, 1mm, 1.5mm, 2.5mm, 4mm and 6mm, etc.

Precautions for rubber sheathed cable production

  1. Equipment: Small pressure equipment with automatic temperature control, timing and multi-specification tubular mold cavity.
  2. Rubber material: consistent with the wire material of the repaired wire, and the rubber content is higher than the repaired material, and the vulcanization system is slightly stronger.
  3. Operation method:
  4. Set the temperature and time according to the vulcanization system of the rubber compound;
  5. Use rubber ink diluent to wipe the repaired area, especially the joints should be fully treated;
  6. Cut the repair rubber compound according to the size of the gap, and be careful not to be too much or too little;
  7. Plug the cut rubber compound into the gap, and be careful not to make the rubber compound higher than the circumference of the wire;
  8. Wrap it with high-temperature resistant PP tape. Put it into a tubular mold cavity slightly smaller than the wire diameter, lock the upper and lower molds, and let the repaired position have a certain pressure. Note that the mold cavity diameter is slightly smaller than the wire diameter by 0.1~0.2mm;
  9. When the vulcanization time is up, take out the product. If a small amount of rubber compound overflows, use a sharp blade to trim it and wipe it with diluent.
  10. Verification method:

Press an appropriate amount of air into the repaired wire and place it in water. The quality can be judged by whether there is air leakage.

Causes of appearance defects
During the production process of rubber-sheathed cables, appearance defects often occur, such as an uneven surface; clinker particles (early vulcanized rubber particles) or impurities on the surface; scratches and abrasions on the surface of wires and cables; surface collapse; surface hemp patterns, etc. The following are five common causes of appearance defects in rubber-sheathed cables:

  1. The die sleeve bearing wire is too long or too short, the die mouth is not smooth and the aperture is too large; the temperature of the machine head, die mouth or body is low; the plasticity of the rubber material is low, etc., which may cause the surface of the rubber-sheathed cable to be uneven.
  2. The supplied rubber is not clean and contains impurities; the scorching time of the rubber material is too short; the temperature of the rubber extrusion machine body, machine head or die is too high; the rubber flow in the machine head is not smooth, and there are dead corners where rubber material is retained; the screw is not smooth, viscose, etc., which mayCauses the appearance of clinker particles (early vulcanized rubber particles) or impurities on the surface of the rubber-sheathed cable.
  3. The mold sleeve is not smooth and has no chamfers; there are impurities or clinker particles blocking the mold mouth; the tube is dragged in the vulcanized tube and scratched; the aperture of the rubber gasket sealing the vulcanized tube outlet is too small, etc., which may cause scratches and abrasions on the surface of the rubber-sheathed cable.
  4. The aperture of the mold sleeve is too large; the gaps between the outer strands and monofilaments of the conductive core are too large, and the outer diameter of the cable core is uneven; the rubber material has low plasticity and poor viscosity; there are impurities in the rubber material; the distance to the mold is small, and the pressure is small, which may cause the surface of the rubber-sheathed cable to collapse.
  5. The aperture of the mold sleeve is too small; the rubber material is not extruded enough, and the gap between the cores is not filled; the conductive core or cable core jumps; the distance to the mold is short, etc., which may cause the surface of the rubber-sheathed cable to appear twisted.

Precautions for the selection and installation of rubber-sheathed cables
Environmental adaptability: Select the appropriate type according to the characteristics of the environment where the cable will be installed.
Mechanical strength: Consider the mechanical stress that the cable may encounter during use.
Temperature range: Ensure that the cable can operate normally within the expected operating temperature range.
Installation method: Follow the installation guide provided by the manufacturer to ensure that the cable is properly installed and fixed.

Precautions for purchasing rubber-sheathed cables
First, do not choose cables that are too cheap. The price of finished rubber-sheathed cables cannot be sold below cost. Secondly, consider the qualifications of the manufacturer. my country implements 3C certification for rubber-sheathed cables, and some products are managed by production licenses. There is no quality assurance for products of unlicensed companies. In the production of rubber-sheathed cables, some manufacturers can only produce single-core rubber-sheathed cables; single-core cables greatly increase the cable laying space, and also increase the installation costs, thereby increasing the project cost. Finally, when purchasing wires, ask the seller for a product inspection report as much as possible. The quality of rubber-sheathed cables cannot be judged by the naked eye. Only through testing can we determine whether they are qualified.
